There is no doubt that 19-year-old singer and songwriter Mason Hope has a rare gift. His talent is undeniable and so obvious to those in the music industry it’s led to him taking home a swag of awards and to receiving numerous accolades from his peers and the media since he first emerged on the scene at the age of 15.
Hailing from Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, one of Mason’s early encounters with the media occurred when he was selected as a featured vocalist for ‘Creative Generations’, an event televised by the TEN Network from the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in 2016. The same year, Mason also took out the main prize in the Voice of Urban and the iconic Gympie Music Muster Talent Search and followed it up by winning the coveted Trans-Tasman Entertainer of the Year in 2017. It’s no coincidence that the term ‘entertainer’ has been earned by Mason through award wins and applied so frequently by the media.
Not only is he a soulful singer and accomplished guitarist and bassist, he is also a drummer of great prowess and incredibly adept at the sometimes jaw-dropping skill of ‘looping’ as first bought to prominence by Ed Sheeran. Along the way Mason came to the attention of radio presenter Todd Widdicombe from the popular ‘Todd & Sami’ Drive Show on the Sunshine Coast’s 92.7 MIXFM. Todd has been a major supporter and describes Mason as a “stylish, sharp, and musically gifted star of the not too distant future” and goes on to say, “I would urge anyone who’s anyone to sit up, take notice and get around him now.”
By 2016 Mason was being invited to perform on some high-profile festivals including Bluesfest (Byron Bay) and Caloundra Music Festival and with return invitations to events like the Gympie Music Muster and the Tamworth Country Music Festival and was selected to appear on high-rating, reality television show, The Voice. When Mason is not performing, he continues his work as an advocate for youth mental health having been a Headspace National youth ambassador, and to cap it off, Mason is also a Sunshine Coast arts and Cultural Ambassador.
2019 is set to be a big year for Mason with the release of his EP “Running Falling Floating” produced by award winning singer, songwriter and producer, Shane Nicholson who sums up Mason perfectly “…a major talent with a huge future ahead of him.” February 2019. Mason will launch this EP at the Gympie Music Muster 2019 where he will be performing.
